Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. NO extra discount at Century City (Los Angeles) location and VERY limited sale selection (although I did see some sale belts when I peeked through an open door to the stock room...couldn't help myself!) Their visual gal, Kelly, was running around like a mad women, so I imagine this was a rollout day. The store looked BEAUTIFUL...but all the ugly sale had been pulled off the floor. I hope it makes it's way back out over the weekend!!

  5. Also OT: there appear to be new promo priced items this morning. I'm not sure how many, but I noticed the pleated crepe skirt is marked down.

    2. Booo I want the polka dot skirt to go on sale! In Canada it's $170, which is insane.

    3. The snakeskin pencil skirt is already on promo. I knew it would not sell out at full price, despite the hype.

    4. Cass, I felt the same way. Quite a few people tried it on but did not buy, according to posts and comments. I love pencil skirts but something about that one isn't enticing, likely because snakeskin isn't as mainstream as other animal prints. It's not the same as real snakeskin accessories and I think it will look dated quickly.

I really believe the tide is shifting in retail and people are becoming a lot more guarded with their spending. Trends and whimsy will have a tougher time this fall.

      Delete
    5. I tried it on and liked it, but do not think the snakeskin print is versatile enough to justify that price for me. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it to work. I might buy it if the price goes down more. At least it was long enough!

      Delete
    6. I'm waiting like some kind of predator to snap it up once it hits $99. :P You really have to be able to own that print. I wore a pair of snake-print pants last week that look a LOT like the skirt and 3 women stopped me to ask me where I got them.

(FYI, Dana Buchman at Kohl's, 80% off on the clearance rack ;)

    7. Elaine, post pics when you get the Snakeskin Pencil ... I want to see you rock it!

    8. An SA in our store has one and it looked great on her. I think it is quite a versatile print and goes with many colours. And the fabric is fabulous! A review and photos here.

  6. At first I was mostly excited about the double-cloth coats (which are not in store) and the Sterling Skirt (and we all know the story on that one). I tried a few things on, but nothing passed my "Would I love this if it were hanging in Kohl's?" wardrobe test, especially at this rollout's price points.

The feeling I get in store is that Tom Mora does not have the confidence to move forward in his new role ...

  12. No visit for me. Retro jade is one of my best colors so I will eventually buy the skirt and a couple of other pieces. Given the changes in fit, quality, and fabric there is no reason to buy at FP.
I was intrigued by the silk foulard print dress - but the Jules shape and the length (32 in Sz 0)make it a no go.

  16. I went last night and despite my best try to "just look" I ended up purchasing a few of the new arrivals. My biggest surprise was the optic dot dress. The fit was amazing on me. I have a narrow waist, broad shoulders and matching hips and often have a hard time finding dresses that fit at the hip and waist. This dress definitely did it for me and the optic dot placement further defined my waist. It is not a cheap dress (and poly too) but when something off the rack fits that well it is hard to say no. My one and only complaint, consistent with others, is that I would have preferred the dress to be longer. I am 5'9 and most jcrew dresses are just too short. This one was on the edge of acceptable for me. I may take it to a tailor and try to squeeze out another inch on the hem. Other items I tried and purchased are the tippi cardigan in the camel/black colour, the pink herringbone cafe capri and the perfect fit colour block tee in black/ivory.

    1. Thanks for mentioning your fitting experience with the Optic Dot dress. It is one of my favourite new items, and based on your review, would fit me well also. Did you notice how much fabric could be let out in the hem?

      Delete
    2. Hi Petit-jour. I think the existing hem is about one and a half inches. I have a pretty crafty tailor and I think at the very best she might be able to get an extra inch letting it down. I also think it will look good with black tights in the fall/winter which makes me feel a bit less exposed with the length.

      Delete
    3. Thanks, Shima Maceo. That is one shape dress that actually works with my body type. I have broad shoulders and most JC dresses are too narrow and high waisted for me. How do you find the poly fabric?

      Delete
    4. Thanks, Shima. Will try it on when in New York this weekend -- yahoo!

      Delete
    5. I can confirm the fit is quite flattering in this dress. And the length is indeed longer compared to some other JC dresses. I reviewed it here.

  17. Has anyone seen the foulard / scarf print jacket IRL yet? Would love some feedback on fit while waiting for it to go on sale...

  18. stopped in on my lunch today...
still very limited sale section but noticed the burgundy/hot pink colorway of the rugby boatneck top is on sale for $34.99

I am also a pass on the wool pencil skirts this year...in addition to seeming lower quality I found the fit to be tighter than last year's but not so much that I could go up a size. Very frustrating because I know my pencils from last year fit fine. Same with the wool cafe capris.

I did come home with the excursion vest in electric pink - it is VERY bright but it was an immediate love for me so I bought it. I live in Upstate NY so will have plenty of time to wear it even if it will sit in the closet for a bit.

Aside from that, underwhelmed by a lot of it...a lot of color but not a lot of "loves" for me. Still have my eye on some outerwear but my store didn't have any of that yet. Guess my wallet (and DH) will be thanking me for now. :)

  19. If anyone is going to a Factory Store I'd love to know how the "factory wool blend pencil skirt" fits and compares to the regular no. 2 version. I missed the viridian green last year but I see it on the factory site. The $60 price tag is very tempting but it's only worth it if it fits well and the fabric is substantial.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was in today. Honestly, I'm very disapointed by the latest rollout. Even the striped Tippi sweater, which I thought I would love and planned to purchase did not wow me IRL. My store has the navy sweater with the grey Peter Pan collar (someone mentioned in the comments yesterday that it was in the look book, but not online -- I think they thought it was the Peter Pan collar tee). It is cute, but so unbearably itchy that there's no way it could be worn. I have no idea what they were thinking with that one. It's 50% wool and 50% alpaca. I tried on the jewel collared sweater, and the Peter Pan sweater was so much itchier. The jewel collar sweater was a pass, too. The body of the xs was too roomy. For a $178 sweater, fit needs to be perfect. Berg. Even the Tippi with the yarn bows didn't thrill me. Cute on Katie Holmes, cute on Cupcakes and Cashmere, but not worth the money, IMO. I left without buying anything, AND I had a $50 rewards card. That's how lackluster I found everything to be. Even the peplum coat didn't speak to me enough to even bring it in the dressing room. The prices are outrageous, too. It makes me not even want to bother.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bummer! I felt the same way about the dot popover that you did about the Tippi. The popover looked so good online. I was even considering purchasing it at full price, which rarely happens. But when I tried it on I only had lukewarm feelings. If it gets low enough I might reconsider.

  21. After my meh JC store visit, I took JCrewJD's advice and checked out the a-line skirt on Land's End's website. I haven't considered LE in a while. I don't know why ... too drunk on the crewlade, I guess. I've purchased lots of basics there in the past, and always had the perception that the quality and service are definitely there, but the colors/styles aren't quite as modern.

Well, check it out. I had to rub my eyes and check the URL at the top of my screen twice. As many have pointed out, there's alot of similar stuff out there right now, and LE appears to have stepped up their game enough for me to give them a try this season.

    2. Stacy, I forgot about the easy returns at Sears stores, and there is no time limit ... LE guarantees their products forever.

  23. Went to the San Francisco store on Tuesday - lots of shorts on sale but no extra percent off. Sale prices seemed high still for this late in the season. Very few accessories, just the small sized espadrilles, one suede bag, one purple leather bag and a few of the same enamel bracelet. Bought nothing.

  28. I went by the Arden, NC Clearance Center on Wednesday without high hopes since they had just had the big warehouse sale this past weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at the stock, the prices, and the very friendly and helpful staff. I picked up a pair of black Minnie pants for $20, a Director dress for $50, and few Crewcuts items for my daughters. I don't think I'll go by a retail or factory store until next week.

  29. I'm going to stop by the Bridgeport Village shop in Portland Oregon on Sunday on the way home. I want to try on a few things. I like to order the Tall pants, and can only do that on-line. Always fun to see a B&M store though.....

  31. I paid a visit to my SF B&M...After all my rant with this roll-out, I had to see the clothes for myself. It's not as bad as I thought it would be as far as the ones I like, the quality of the fabric and construction. I didn't try on the clothes because the husband was with me. Since I can't afford to pay FP, I just have to stalk my B&M a month after each roll-out, to see if items I like goes on sale...

    1. I've been contemplating a Barbour jacket too. My male coworker who is very quality conscience and has maybe the best and most expensive wardrobe in the office loves Barbour and swears by their quality. They are a British brand that has been around forever and is favored by the royal family.

The price is a bit hard to swallow but the designs are classic and last forever (according to him--and he actually wears his jackets out in the wild, hunting and doing manly things). HTH!!

  36. Mini, I've worn Barbours since childhood and have built quite a collection. IMO the quality is great and they are long lasting. They even have a repair service! Barbour offers a wider range of styles than what you see on the JC website. Muffy (no relation) at The Daily Prep blog just did a review of a couple of the more popular styles the Bedale and the Beaufort.
Also they have two outlet stores in NH which have terrific sales on holiday weekend.

  38. This may have been asked before, but what can people tell me re EBay sellers who have brand new items for sale that are less than the current price. This bothers me. I just bought a pair of shoes today that I like that are selling out, then I googled them (looking to see if anyone had worn them streetshots etc) and say them pop up in endless EBay postings most as New without Box. Ar these stolen? I would not buy, but still, they are around $100 less

    1. Sydneygirl- it is possible they were purchased at a warehouse sale or the clearance stores in Lynchburg. Or as you said, they sadly could be stolen goods.

The clearance store and warehouse sale merch always has black lines through the label to prevent in-store returns, FYI.

      Delete
    2. Stylishly Spoken- thanks! I suppose they could just be regular resellers too. In the past (a long time ago) I've been to warehouse sales, and I just wouldn't have thought that items this new- the Everly heels - would already be in the clearance or warehouse merchandise. I know they sometimes have samples in colors that don't end up being produced. Anyway, just wondered since for the color way I bought they are almost completely sold out in several sizes and yet, voila, there they are on EBay. Oh well. Have a great day.

      Delete
    3. No problem! I would bet they are clearance or warehouse purchases. The last time I was in lynchburg the stores had tons of current season merch. At the prices they sell for, it makes it nearly impossible to pay FP. If only I lived closer ha!!

    4. Sydneygirl - Definitely clearance purchases that are being resold. I also think there are J Crew employees or people who have access to getting current merchandise for cheap & reselling it.

  39. I visited the Michigan Ave store today and came away with the hen sweater (just couldn't help myself - it looked really cute with a dress shirt underneath) and the snakeskin pencil skirt. For some reason, I thought the snakeskin skirt was a black and gray combo, but it's actually a really pretty purple and gray. It wasn't on promo in the store, but when I mentioned that it was online, they gave me the promo price. Yay.

  40. I visited J.Crew today and was delighted to find and purchase the French Hen sweater...a fun sweater to add to my collection...liked a few other things, however, they did not have my size, so I guess I'll order...any styling tips for the FH sweater? Thanks! :)

  41. Visited the J Crew at the MOA this weekend. Took home the Port of Call sweatshirt and the new Matchstick cords in Burnt Sienna. I've always taken a sz.2/27 in the Matchstick and did this time as well, however the different colors I tried on all felt a touch more loose that last years. Not enough to size down, but not nearly as slim fitting as previous seasons.

Oh, they had the Hen sweater in both navy and acorn there too. Tried it on, it was cute, but left it in the dressing room once I noticed the fabric was the Dream material. I'll wait till it goes on clearance for under $40, that way when it pills and falls appart it won't be such a dissapointment.

  47. I stopped in hoping to try on the Sterling skirt and the argyle Tippi but they didn't have either. I did end up trying on and buying the oversized merino v-neck sweater in gray. It has side pockets, odd but I like it. It's big and slouchy and a slightly heavier weight than the merino Tippis.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am considering the oversized merino- did you have to size down? Thanks!

      Delete
    2. I did size down. Usually I'll buy a Medium in J Crew sweaters and tops, but I bought a Small. I probably could have gone smaller, but I liked the way the Small looked so I didn't try other sizes. The word oversized is accurate for this sweater. It is not dolman-sleeved, but the shoulders are very dropped so there is no way it will look fitted in any size. It's nice to see a merino sweater other than the usual styles.

    3. Lilly, I tried it on in a size down and honestly think I could have gone down one more. I really like this sweater despite the big shape because its cozy and had pockets. I have a review on my blog if you're interested in checking it out.

  49. I just got back. I used my rewards card on the French hen sweater in the camel color. I absolutely do not believe it's worth full price as it is itchy and the fabric looks like it'll pill quickly, but I couldn't resist. It's so cute on and I truly doubt it'll make it to sale in my size. So I bought it :hangs head in shame:

I also fell in love with the Schoolboy Blazer in modern red--great fit and color (although it's more orange than red). But I'll definitely wait for a promo before I buy it.
